Kitchen cabinet finishes take a beating. Over time the constant spattering near stoves, opening and closing doors/drawers with sticky fingers, and the moisture around the sink area can cause finishes to break down. The worn finish will sometimes become tacky or simply start flaking. You don't need to replace them!
For many kitchens the most cost-effective way to update the cabinets is to simply refinish them. Doors and drawer fronts are removed and refinished in my shop, the remaining framework, if needed, can be done in place
If it is a new look you desire, I also offer cabinet refacing in which doors and drawer fronts can be replaced with a different style while the remaining framework is covered with matching veneer. Typically, more expensive than refinishing yet cheaper than replacement.
If you've suffered an insurance claim that damaged your cabinet boxes, be sure to tell your insurance agent and water/mold mitigation people to save the cabinets. Most often I can rebuild the cabinet boxes utilizing the existing face frame eliminating the need and headaches caused by trying to match new cabinets to the existing ones.
